Tuesday, June 23

It's a good morning. Prayer time. Bible out, reading through my friend's thoughts, knowing that God is right now preparing me for my day... and a HUGE mug of coffee. :) It's a good day.

I am completely enjoying and learning from this present discussion and I'm so glad that Amy brought the topic up!!! If you all have any topics you'd like to discuss with our format on suffering, please e-mail them to me and we'll try to hit each one.

If you missed any parts of the discussion from yesterday... please take a moment to go back and read through them. There were SO MANY THINGS brought to the table that are so worth remembering!

Let's break these things down into two topics, one for today and one for tomorrow. I don't know about you but I'm encouraged, and motivated from our discussions. I don't want to lose sight of what I'm learning, so I want us to keep digging and draw out our personal application: "feet planting steps"... to take from here.

The two things we need to understand in order to accurately establish our mindset are:

1. Jesus knew Peter.
2. Peter had to know Jesus to make it.

Sounds simple, right? Like something we hear all the time? That's why we have to dig deeper. There are things that God wants us to understand that are beyond our "knowledge"... that are HIS truth, not ours.

For today: Jesus knew Peter.
Back to Psalms 1:6a For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous...
The Hebrew word here for watches is [KNOWING]. The Lord is [knowing] your life. It's a verb. He's [active]. He's [caught up] on your life. And He's [doing something about it.] Awesome.

"Behold how David here terrifies us away from all prosperous appearances, and commends to us various temptations and adversities. For this "way" of the righteous all men are utterly reprobate; thinking also, that God knoweth nothing about any such way. But this is the wisdom of the cross. Therefore, it is God alone that knoweth the way of the righteous, so hidden is to it the righteous themselves. For His right hand leads them on in a wonderful manner, seeing that it is a way, not of sense, nor of reason, but of faith only; even that faith that sees in darkness, and beholds things that are invisible." - Martin Luther

God knows YOU. He knows ME. He knows our thoughts, our feelings, where we come from, where we're going, what we need, what we want... and what will finally become of all of these things. He knows the whole picture.

Below I'm including another list of the names of God, so that we can better know the One who knows us, so very well. I'm pulling the history of these names from a fabulous Bible study book called : "Knowing God By Name" by Mary A. Kassian
Please take a few minutes to look up and take note of the Scriptures I'm including. They are food for your day, my friend. :)

The God who knows you.. is:
EL RO-I : God sees me.
(You know this one!!!) Gen. 16:13-14; Psalm 94:9
IMMANU EL : God with us
Ezekial 37:27; John 14:16-17
ELOHEY AVOTEYNU : God of our Fathers
Exodus 3:15, Jeremiah 32:38-41
AVI : Father
Ephesians 1:4-5; Romans 8:15-16
EL QANNA : Jealous God
Exodus 34:14; Isaiah 54:5

Now plant your feet.
For discussion: No matter where you are today... you CAN go farther with God. What a priviledge!!! In what ways should it impact our lives that God's view of us goes beyond simple knowledge? Some ways may be scary... other ways are comforting.
As a result... as people seen be a Creator God... How should we live?

One of my favorite parts of yesterday's story of Peter, is that while Peter needed to fix his eyes on Jesus... Jesus had His eyes on Peter. ALWAYS. Even while Peter floundered to figure it out. Do you need to be rescued today? Remember that if you are seeking after Him, God has put you where you are for a PURPOSE. Find it. You might not know the ultimate purpose, but you can seek His face in it for today. His help... His direction... and His protection are IMMEDIATE.

I love the way that we talked about Peter being brave enough to do the impossible... to walk on the water. Somehow, Jesus knew that his eyes still weren't in the right place. I don't think it was possible for Peter to even recognize it... he wanted to walk on the water so badly! Then the wind and the waves came... and Jesus allowed Peter to be stretch further to FINALLY fix his eyes on Jesus ONLY. So... for all of us "Peter's" have a wonderful day seeking the God who already knows you... and let's plant our feet!

Will you please pray today as Lauren and I head downtown to take photos for next month's 5.2 Journal and share the Lord through 5.2 with those we meet? Thank you for praying!
